The Foamex memory foam mattress is one to write home about! In fact, I like it so much, that I decided to write a review about it.

I ordered the bamboo cover Foamex 10″ memory foam mattress from Amazon.com as my husband was driving the last nail into our newly finished home. My husband builds eco-friendly post and beam homes, and we wanted our furniture (yes, even our mattress) to reflect our love of nature. We are frugal by nature, and we really could not beat the price of this memory foam mattress. Free shipping was an added bonus!  Moreover, with four young daughters, we knew we would need every bit of restful sleep we could get. After many months of sleeping on this queen mattress, I can honestly state that it more than delivers, and I am sleeping soundly!

The Foamex 10” mattress is a good buy for the money conscious buyer, and it is made in the United States! Memory foam mattresses come in many different thicknesses and densities. By a general rule-of-thumb, one should never buy a memory foam mattress with less than 3 pounds of density. Memory foam means just that: the foam will mold to your body. The lack of support of anything less than 3 pounds could cause many restless nights of sleep. The Foamex 10” mattress offers a 4 pound density memory foam comfort layer to offer superior support to the body’s major pressure points.  Moreover, research has shown that a higher density memory foam mattress offers a hotter nights sleep. The following testament came from “GTF” – an Amazon.com reviewer:

“Discovered that there are only a handful of American manufacturers of the memory foam. Foamex is one. Many cheaper mattresses are manufactured in China and their recent manufacturing track history in general has been spotty at best. So look for American made. No guarantee, but the odds are better. The original Tempurpedic was a “slow-return” foam that took a couple of seconds to reform after pressure release, leaving “pockets” behind that you had to kind of climb up out of. Also, some had complained that they retained too much heat. They (or someone) came up with a “fast-return” foam with much better ventilation that they call the “Cloud,” or “TempurCloud.” A real improvement. An 8-10” mattress thickness is considered standard in the memory foam mattress industry. The Foamex memory foam mattress with bamboo cover offers a 10” thickness. I think this is more than adequate. My past memory foam mattress (not a Foamex) was 14”. I found it difficult to fit standard sheets on it.  I have no problems fitting a sheet on this mattress. Stick with 10-12” if possible.

“The bamboo cover that came with the mattress is very nice and it fits perfectly. I’ve also slept on Tempur-Pedic mattresses and I think this is just as good at 30% of the price.”

“Ships in a heavy vacuum packed plastic wrapping inside a large cardboard box. Once I unwrapped it, it seemed too small for my frame, but within 24 hours it filled the frame just right and expanded to dimensions listed on Amazon. I noticed only the slightest smell for the first day, which disappeared quickly. Cover is very good quality stretch fabric, with a zipper along the bottom for easy removal and cleaning. This mattress rocks! I’ve noticed I don’t toss and turn as much as I did with my old inner spring mattress, and don’t wake up during the night. It’s a slight bit firmer than I thought it would be, but still totally comfortable. Strongly recommend this product.”

Because Foamex uses natural plant-based ingredients in place of petroleum products, there will be a less noticeable smell with this memory foam mattress. Indeed, I noticed that the smell was much less noticeable with this memory foam mattress.  My last memory foam mattresses smelled like chemicals for months!

“I love the idea of this being a more “green” mattress than other versions. The odor disappeared after one day. It is firm, with give in all the right places. I have a lot of hip pain and the pressure of my inner spring mattress made me toss and turn all night, but not with this mattress. I really love it!”

The bottom line: Foamex memory foam mattress delivers in quality, and is eco-friendly.  I love the way this memory foam mattress supports my body. Furthermore, when my husband rolls over at night, I can’t feel a thing. Perhaps my favorite aspect of this mattress is the bamboo lining that wicks moisture away from my body at night. Some memory foam mattresses are hot. This one is not. Another plus- my husband who has fought chronic back pain for years is sleeping without pain medication. This mattress has been a life saver for my husband and me.  At the time of this review, I can not find one bad aspect of the Foamex 10″ Premium Eco-Friendly Memory Foam Mattress with Aerus Natural Memory Foam Comfort Layer with Rayon Made from Bamboo Cover. However, some people state that this mattress is warmer than a traditional mattress, but I find it is cooler than my previous memory foam mattress.

Memory foam mattresses have come a long way since their inception years ago.  My queen size mattress arrived at my doorstep wrapped in plastic. I unwrapped it, and I watched expand. Gone was the strong smell of my previous mattress.  In less than 24 hours, I was ready to experience the best nights sleep that I have had in a long time. It was time for a new mattress, and since a human spends 1/3 of their life sleeping, I wanted a mattress that I grow old upon-peacefully. I hope that my many nights of peaceful sleep continue, and I am sure they will!
